How do I transfer account ownership to another user?
Chromatic accounts don’t have an owner role, so there’s nothing to hand over directly. What to do depends on the account type.
To hand off a single project, see project ownership.
Organization accounts linked to a Git provider
Access comes from your GitHub organization, GitLab group, or Bitbucket workspace. Everyone in it becomes an account collaborator, so there’s no owner to reassign. Change access in your Git provider instead.
One thing is tied to a specific person: the Git provider API token Chromatic uses to sync your Git organization’s details and permissions. If that person leaves or loses access, another account collaborator takes it over:
- Sign in to Chromatic with the same Git provider.
- Open your account’s Settings page.
- Under API token, select Replace with your token.
This can only be done by the person taking over the token, and it can’t be undone.
Enterprise accounts with SSO
Account roles are provided by your identity provider. An Admin can change an account collaborator’s role to Billing, Member, or Viewer on the Settings page, but making someone an Admin must be done in your identity provider. Every account keeps at least one Admin. See account roles.
Unlinked organization accounts
Chromatic Support manages account collaborators on an unlinked organization account. Each account collaborator needs a profile created with email and password. Ask Support to add or remove an account collaborator or assign Member or Billing access.
Personal accounts
The Admin role on a personal account does not let you add another account collaborator or transfer the account. Ask Chromatic Support to transfer it. Include the account and the person who should receive it.
Moving the subscription is a separate step; see how do I transfer my account’s subscription to another account?.
